She owns a 116-year-old building on Dwight Street in Holyoke and is attempting to evict her tenants in retaliation for calling the local Board of Health regarding severe health and safety violations. Despite having owned the property only since May 2023, Ms. Tran has already accumulated 47 code violations. While some are minor, many are major structural and safety hazards: • Unusable Fire Escape: Upper-floor tenants cannot use the fire escape in an emergency. It is roped off with a "Do Not Use" sign and lacks a drop ladder. • Contaminated Water: The running water throughout the building is unsafe for drinking or cooking. The Board of Health and the Plumbing & Gas Inspector alerted us to this issue, yet Ms. Tran failed to notify the rest of the tenants. • Structural Decay: The exterior of the building is missing bricks and mortar. • Damaged Window Screens: Screens have gaping holes, forcing tenants to choose between keeping windows closed or letting bees and other insects into their apartments. • Inadequate Hallway Lighting: Common hallways are poorly lit during the day, posing a hazard for visually impaired tenants. • Neglected Common Areas: Hallway floors have not been swept or mopped since Ms. Tran bought the building. This is just a taste of what's to come on the forthcoming album, titled "Haunted," due out in February of 2027. This track is what I call a message song with real power behind it. By today's standards, we don't often get message songs that truly stand out. The message here is clear: as a woman, be who you want to be, don't let anyone control you, and don't take any shit from anyone trying to tell you who to be. This track has sounds reminiscent of Debbie Harry's Blondie, The Bangles, and Belinda Carlisle's Go-Go's. It feels like the new wave era of the eighties and nineties is back, led by Christina Eskew with the rest of the band backing her up seamlessly. I am hoping this one gets on mainstream radio, as it is time for some message-driven songs to be heard. Mainstream radio stations are getting boring and watered down with repetitive songs about partying, drinking, and sexual desire. It is time for some real music that has meaning behind it, not the constant, dull drivel we have been hearing for quite some time. We don't need songs like, for instance, Taylor Swift's "Wood"—a song about her husband's anatomy. Let's be real: that is on a need-to-know basis, and Taylor, quite honestly, we don't need to know. It is time to hear about women taking control and regaining power over themselves without taking anything from anyone. Keep bringing these types of message songs out, Hellflowers. However, this version by **Highway Wolf** literally takes off like a jet airliner and doesn’t let up until the final note. There is certainly no turbulence here; in fact, this cover blew me away the moment it started playing in my headset. I cranked it up, and that bluegrass finger-picking style is simply superb. It breathes new life into the song for new listeners and long-time fans alike. While it's hard to imagine anyone hasn't heard at least one version of this track, if you haven’t, this is the pinnacle. All major versions of this song are classics in their own right, but if I were to rank them in order of preference, here is my definitive list: 1. **Highway Wolf** 2. **Steve Miller Band** 3. **Paul Pena** As I’ve stated, these are all great recordings. However, while the Steve Miller Band version is a staple of classic rock radio, it has begun to feel a bit stale from decades of overplay. It is time to give Mr. Miller a break and let this new version take over. Highway Wolf has delivered the ultimate version of "Jet Airliner," and it deserves a spot on the airwaves alongside—or even in place of—the original hits.

He is still rockin' on with his latest release, "The Rock & Roll Philosopher", a companion compilation piece to go along with his book that he released last year with the same title featuring bluesy, gritty rock tunes sprinkled with phenomenal guitar virtuosos—including Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Mark Knopfler, and Sonny Landreth. Of course, there are some great re-recorded classics, including "Runaround Sue," "Ruby Baby," and "The Wanderer." However, the best re-recorded classic is Dion's poetic "Abraham, Martin and John": a critically acclaimed tribute to three great men who gave us the rights and freedom we know today. It is a stripped-down, melodic version of the true classic Dion made big in 1968. It stands the test of time today, allowing you to learn a little bit of history set to music. "King of the New York Streets" is a live recording from his return to the rock and blues world, *Yo Frankie*, which was originally released in 1989. I’ll admit, this live version has a little more grit and bite versus the original studio version. The album kicks off with a kick-ass blues-rock tune entitled "I Am Your Gangster of Love," which keeps your foot tapping and sticks in your mind for hours and days to come. "New York Minute" brings you back to a simpler time and the roots of where it all started for Dion. I would consider it semi-biographical; if you know your history about this pioneer of rock and roll, you know he's from New York—the Bronx, to be exact. Let’s face it, you can never write enough songs about where you’re from. That’s how you know which artists really mean it when talking about home: do you really miss it, or is it just to save face with your audience? New York is definitely something special. If you’ve never been there, you can’t say much just because you saw something on television; it’s an experience you cannot forget once you’ve gone there. "If You Want to Rock & Roll" features two legends: Dion on vocals and a master of his craft, Eric Clapton, on guitar. As a guitarist still rockin' as he gets on in age, it seems as though Clapton just keeps getting better and better at what he does. As stated at the beginning of this article, this album has a little something for everyone. For those who have never heard the classics like "Runaround Sue" or "Abraham, Martin and John," they will feel fresh and new. For those of us who have heard them all these years since they were recorded originally, these re-recordings prove that the sixties never really left us. Sixty years on, Dion sounds the same as he did when he recorded those songs all those years ago. This compilation has the perfect balance and mix of Dion’s career. You get to hear a great sample of all he’s done in the last sixty-nine years, and his voice has never changed. It’s truly amazing what he’s still doing now, including working on a Broadway show and making a documentary. There is a saying that "Rock & Roll keeps you young and viable." There has to be some truth in that, and the proof is Dion DiMucci himself—still rockin' through several decades with so much still to create and tell. Keep the blues and rock and roll coming; as long as you’re out there doing what you do, everyone will keep coming to see you do it. This album gets 5 out of 5 stars across the board.
