On Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, the Sheriff's Department along with the local Holyoke Police Department arrived at 9:45 a.m. at 948 Dwight Street while my wife and I were trying to get out the last of our smaller items to take with us to where we are currently staying until this Tuesday, September 22nd. I was outside on the sidewalk—as we lived on the first floor—handing items to my friend who was helping us, when the sheriff approached me before the move-out time was officially set to start. He got in my personal space, right in my face, and then proceeded to yell and scream profanities at me that I will not repeat. He basically said to me: come 10 a.m. you're both done, you will not remove any more items, and the rest will belong to the landlord. Now mind you, the notification we received—which was not even a full thirty days ahead of this disaster like it should have been—specifically stated that at 10 a.m. the official move-out would begin, and that there would be a licensed and bonded moving company to help take out the rest of our items. That included a stove, refrigerator, a bed, a desk, a table with a cabinet attached to it, and a drawer set for silverware and similar items. The Holyoke Police Department also got in my face, yelling and screaming right along with the sheriff, disrupting the remaining time I had to get my items out. When 10 a.m. arrived, they said, "Alright, that's enough, no more—the rest is the landlord's." Mind you, we still had to take our dog out and get my insulin, and they were telling me I couldn't take that stuff with me. My wife said, "We're taking it—it's medication. The dog alerts me when he's having low blood sugar, so the dog is not staying, and the medication bag containing his testing supplies and insulin is required." Both the sheriff and police said no, but my wife took them anyway. A landlord is not legally allowed to seize any tenant's personal belongings, yet she tried. Now she has a serious lawsuit coming her way, alongside the City of Holyoke for both the Police Department and the Sheriff's Department. This is not how an eviction is legally supposed to be executed, but it happened anyway. Luckily, my sister-in-law was kind enough to put us up in a motel for a week, but Tuesday is coming quickly and that will be our last day there. The landlord screwed us over at the very last minute by claiming she would accept rental assistance, only to pull out one week prior—after submitting all her documentation—saying she wouldn't accept it after all. We spent the last of our funds on a U-Haul moving truck.
