Talking Hendrix News For the Week of July 7, 2019

Hello Everyone We are sorry that Talking Hendrix has not been on the air in the last two weeks, but the publicist of our last guest we were going to have on our show kicked and screamed like a child all over a typographical error in a article posted on patch.com which we took down, we here at Talking Hendrix were going to fix the error, but the publicist for our guest didn't want to put his big boy pants on that day and had a temper tantrum like a child in a store who can't get the toy they want, we apologized to the publicist and according to him that wasn't good enough, so like a spoiled child that get's their way he threw his weight around and pitched a fit and got his way in the end. No Need to worry we're already in the works of getting on a new station we just can't say which one because the spoiled child watches every move we make here right now but when we get al the details everyone will know and the spoiled child won't be able to do anything about it. Until then keep watching here and for our newsletter in your e-mail box thanks for your co-operation and kindness in waiting but just think the new station will let us actually play music so there's a plus for us here at Talking Hendrix no more one hour interviews, we'll still have interviews but not for the whole straight show like we've had for the last year. Country Rewind Records Releases New Never Before Heard Classic Tracks From Jeannie C. Riley, Carl Smith, The Blueridge Mountain Bluegrass Band, & Johnny Russell

Music label Country Rewind Records in conjunction with Select-O-Hits records has started a series of classic traditional country artists including Jeannie C. Riley, Johnny Russell, Carl Smith and The Blue Ridge Mountain Bluegrass Band. This is what I would call nashville's version of BBC sessions that has been released throughout the years of many classic rock artis such as the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Cream just to name a few. These are recordings from some of the best country artists of the 50s, 60s and 70s , tren setting artists that paved the way for our current contemporary artists of today, at that time radio had more shows where they would have an artist come in to the studio and play their hit single and then if time permitted they would perform some of their favorite songs that either were currently on the charts or a former chart topper at the time, and they would perform those classic songs the way they would have done it had they recorded those particular ditties themselves; Thomas Gramuglia, owner of Country Rewind Records rescued the master tapes of the material contained in these packages. These performances just as the bbc sessions I mentioned were originally only broadcasted on the air circa the 1960s and the 1970s, and they haven't been heard since on any type of package release on these artists. The music contained in these packages have been remastered for the highest quality for digital sound for your listening pleasure, they have also been upgraded to a more contemporary sound by adding some background vocals or orchestration arrangement, but I will say this you can't tell that there were even upgrades to the material at all they all have the classic traditional country sound that you can only hear from these original classic artists, infact if you have a good imagination and the younger generation reading this review can visualize what your parents and or/grandparents would tell you as a child that they didn't grow up with television...they're right about that as the cost for a television was quite expensive back then, our parents and grandparents would gather around the radio while sitting in the living room and listen to a variety of different shows the grand ole opry being one of them on the radio and each week they'd hear their favorite artists take the stage and perform their what are now known as classic hits of the day, well while you're listening to these superior sounding albums close your eyes and visualize what I just described and take a little trip down memory lane with the family while listening to these historical music pieces. The first of the four releases that just came out recently is female artist Jeannie C. Riley, the album being titled "The Music City Sessions", which of course contains her 1968 monster hit for pop and country charts "Harper Valley PTA", which also later became a movie starring Barbara Eden of I Dream Of Jeannie, and then later a television show as well from 1978-1981, although Jeannie would never obtain another #1 chart hit on the pop and country charts, she did have moderate success with some other songs and some are included in this package, includeing "Me and Bobby McGhee" penned by Kris Kristofferson and written for Female rock legend Janis Joplin who would have a monster hit with it towards the end of her life and career. Crying Time originally recorded and written by Buck Owens for the b-side of his hit "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail", did not chieve a hit for him, but would two years later in 1966 for Ray Charles, Jeannie takes a turn on making this classic her own with her vocal stylings, some of Jeannie's other moderately charted hits included in this package are "Back Side Of Dallas", "Country Girl", "Girl Most Likely" "There Never Was A Time", "Tings Go Better With Love", and then some other great cover tunes as i'll call them with Jeannie's vocal stamping on them including "Okie From Muskogee" a classic sixties hit for Merle Haggard, and this is a treat to hear her doing legendary Dusty Springfield's hit "Son Of A Preacher Man" done in a totally different style from Dusty's memphis r&b soul version but Jeannie's is very catchy to the ear, and then one of my personal favorites to have been covered is "Games People Play" written and performed originally by Joe South, this one doesn't have as much of a spin on it as it was basically a traditional country tinged song to begin with, if you are a fan of Jeannie C. Riley you should definitely go out and get this definitive collection of material that hasn't been heard since the original airing of these on the radio which is close to 50 years this won't just attract the original fans of her music this will also bring some new fans that are interested in hearing where some of their current country artists got their influences from. The second album released from this record label is Grand Ole Opry member Johnny Russell with the album entitled "All I Got To Do Is Act Naturally", and with in this collection of material there are some of Johnny's more memorable singles including his big hit from 1973 "Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer", along with other singles he recorded throughout his career including "Catfish JOhn", "Mr. and Mrs. Untrue", "She Burnt The Little Roadside Tavern Down", The Baptism Of Jesse Taylor", "She's In Love With A Rodeo Man", and there are some interesting renditions of some classic hits that were made big by other artists, but again in this case Johnny puts his touch to them starting with "Act Naturaly" another great classic penned and recorded by Buck Owens and was a successful hit for Buck and also the Beatles, infact in the late 80s Buck would re-record the hit with Beatle Ringo Starr and release a music video to accompany the single release, I will say that Johnny's version of this classic doesn't sound much different from Buck's or the Beatles version he kept it mostly in the same style just his vocalization is the difference from the other version. "Good Hearted Woman"....yes the Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson classic duet in which i'm sorry to say no offense to Johnny Russell's version but there will never be a version that can compare to Waylon and Willie's version, nice attempt at it though, the next classic is really just that it's pretty much a standard to learn for every boy and man who learns to play a guitar and that's Chuck Berry's "johnny B Goode" and let's face it everyone does this one their own way Johnny is no different when it comes to this one giving that countrified twang sound to this rock anthem, "Jambalaya" who hasn't covered this country classic which is a fun toe tappin' tune for you to hearr. All in all these are tastey delectable treats for the die hard fan of Johnny Russell who most likely did these covers in different performances throughout his career, it's ashame that we lost Johnny at age 61 in July of 2001 due to diabetes complications, i'm sure he would have been proud to hear these performances digitally remastered for his original fans and his new fans he will most likely pick up from this fine collection of his classic performances. moving on to the third release in this wonderful series of classic performances of legendary Grand Ole Opry members and Country Music Hall Of Fame members as well. This next artist really doesn't need any introduction as he was known as Mr. Country and that's Carl Smith, and that' also just so happens to be the name of this release "Mr. Country" and this package is a definitive collection of quite a few of his single releases that spanned close to three decades worth of his fine craftsmanship of songwriting and singing, including four number one hits with "Are You Teasin' Me"& "When You Feel Like You're In Love, Don't Just Stand There", which were both originally released by carl in 1952 "Hey Joe" #1 in 1953 and "Loose Talk" #1 in 1954 these as you can see were all number ones that Carl had achieved along with others that didn't make it on to this compilation too, staying in Carl's catalog of singles "If Teardrops Were Pennies", which didn't achieve number 1 status at the time but it still made the top ten and reached number 8. "I Overlooked An Orchid While Searching For A Rose" , which was Carl's second single release in 1950 and from research this writer did couldn't find find any charting for this song , but quite frankly it is a beautiful ballad telling his story of looking for his love of a specific nature but stumbled upon someone even better then he originally set out for, "Mr. Moon" was a number 4 hit for Carl, and of course there are these glorious tracks for the fan that's been on board with his music from the beginning and for all the new fan listeners that are just getting on the band wagon and starting to hear this historically recorded material. In 1951 "The Best Years Of My Life" a #15 hit in 1959, "She Called Me Baby" a #32 hit single just barely getting past #40 in 1965, "Deep Water" Carl's first #10 hit single for the first time in a while for the year 1967 which was the summer of love, "Foggy River" a #18 the following year in 1968, "I Love You Because" a #14 single in 1969, and would later get recorded by the king of rock and roll himself Elvis Presley and even though it didn't chart for the king, anything as far as this writer knows about Elvis's musical history generally got the original performer more recognition and fan followers. This is a well thought out collection of Carl's hits, yes there are hits missing but this is a good starter collection for someone who is just getting on board and starting to listen to his material. Our final release in the bunch is the Blueridge Mountain Bluegrass Band and their album entitled "Leaving On A Jet Plane". this band features many songs written by some of the best artists through the 20th century including John Denver and Carl Perkins just to name a couple although their voices are not featured in the material contained in this compilation, you are still going to want to go out and pick this album up for your musical library just to say you at least have it. The musicians featured playing and singing on here are superb and top notch players to say the least as you have to be to be pickin' bluegrass in this writer's opinion. The players in the band are as follows: Dr. James Satterwhite on the Bass and Guitar, John Kribs a well seasoned Guitar player on the track Stony Lady, John Terry Frost on Lead Vocals, Laddie Cain Harmony Vocals, Anthony Hannigan on Mandolin, Dave Bevins on Dobro, Chris Leske on Banjo, Arlin Green on Bass, Sara Milonovich on Fiddle and Vocals, and they're all on this plentiful package of music contained within this jam packed package and when it all comes to the end of each of these albums written in this review you'll want to hit the repeat button on the cd player or however you listen to your music these days and hear them again. Here is the list of tracks contained within this fun filled finger pickin' package, Adrenaline Hayride, Leaving On A Jet Plane, Stony Lady, Cripple Creek, when I hear this song I think of the sixties band The Monkees who if you bought their live 1967 album you'll hear Peter Tork perform this piece during his solo portion of the show on just his banjo with no other accompanyment, Bartender's Blues which is originally penned and performed by James Taylor who in my opinion is one of our great songwriters of the 20th centurey next to Bob Dylan of course, Dixie Hoedown, You Are My Sunshine, Head Over Heals In Love With You , Blackberry Blossom, Blue Suede Shoes an interesting version to say the least but it is a toe tapper that will get you up and wanting to cut a rug as the saying goes for this classic tune and no one does this track the same every recorded version has something special about it, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, More Pretty Girls Than One, Ballad of Jed Clampett, everyone knows this one especially if you've seen the sixties television show either when they originally aired or in syndication somewhere who doesn't love the Beverly Hillbillies you'll have this one stuck in your head for hours after hearing it as it's such a fun track to sing along with, Summertime, a classic penned by George and Ira Gershwin for the play Porgy and Bess, and is a very well covered tune by so many contemporary artists including just these few here to mention Sam Cooke, Janis Joplin, and Paul McCartney. Salt Creek penned by Grand Ole Opry member Bill Monroe and lastly to close out this package of is Grandfather's Clock, a traditional bluegrass standard but nevertheless a great closer for an album. I highly recommend all of these fine packaged releases and there is more of these albums to come from the label. For more information on where you can purchase these albums you can go directly to their website: ww.countryrewind.com or www.amazon.com and on those sites you can purchase physical copies on cd or digitally stream the material through your favorite media platform of choice for your music listening. If you like this type of traditional country music then you should check out the current contemporary country music stars that are inspired by these artists and more of the classical traditional country music sound. Just a few artists of today to mention that are inspired by some of the folks here are Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire and many more. This music is a lost art form because of radio today only playing current top forty hits and not a mix of today and yesterday's music there's plenty of room on these stations for all of it, and it's sad when we're forced to listen to those same top forty songs over and over every other hour of the day, if it wasn't for this music written about in this review, we wouldn't have what we have now for music these artists paved the way for the current contemporaries out there and it should be made known to the world.

Classic Rewind Music Review: Dirty Dancing Live In Concert 1988

I've decided to put some classic reviews to some older albums that are out there and still are available through many different outlets to purchase these classic greats from I hope you will enjoy the review and maybe if you own the album it might spark you to pull something out you might not have heard in a while and take a stroll down memory lane for a little while. This classic 1987 movie that starred Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey inspired not one but two spectacular soundtracks to the motion picture that featured some of today's and yesterday's artists on the two soundtracks. The two original soundtracks which were Dirty Dancing and More Dirty Dancing featured such artists as The Ronnettes, Otis Redding, Micky & Sylvia, The Contours, The Drifters, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes, Eric Carmen, Patrick Swayze and so many more, that it inspired a live concert tour in 1988 and it featured Bill Medley, Merry Clayton, Eric Carmen and The Contours. The host/announcer on the tour was "Cousin" Brucie Morrow who is a big radio disc jockey from the late 1950s right up to the present and can still be heard on Sirius XM. radio This concert was recorded in Los Angeles, California and opens with Merry Clayton performing her track from the original soundtrack entitled "Yes", which is a great dance tune and a very uplifting positive song to hear, Clayton then performs another song from the movie but although not the original performer in the movie but still does a superb job on it anyways and that's "Overload" , we then move on to Eric Carmen who had so many hits in the seventies and eighties, with the seventies it was with his group the Raspberries and then he would go solo to make some monster classics including "All By Myself", Carmen comes out with his hit "Make Me Lose Control" which is a great piece for this concert seeing as we're going down memory lane with classic oldies and he mentions a few in their like "Uptown" by the Crystals, and "stand By Me" by Ben E. KIng such a fitting song, he then goes in to doing another classic eighties ballad "Almost Paradise" originally performed by him and Nancy Wilson of the group Heart, the track was featured in another big dance movie from a few years prior to Dirty Dancing and that would be Kevin Bacon's "Footloose" from 1984, but seeing as Nancy wasn't there to help out on her parts they substituted in Merry Clayton which gave the track a somewhat different vibe but she made it her own every night on the tour, then Eric closed out with a song as he put it that Jennifer and Patrick did a little dirty dancing to and of course that was his monster hit from the soundtrack "Hungry Eyes" which is also featured in so many television commercials as well and the performance was so spot on you would have thought you were listening to the album or you were hearing it on the radio. The Contours are the next performaers in the show being that they are from the legendary Motown label and they charted with a couple of hits I recall one is in the movie of course and that's "do You Love Me" the other hit from them is "First I Look At The Purse" which sadly they do not perform in the concert they come out opening their set with "Get Ready" the Temptations hit and they do an adequate job on their take of it, they then follow up with Solomon Burke's classic "Cry To Me" which is of course featured in the film, before they do an elongated version of "Do You Love Me" they have the "Dirty Dancers come out to perform a dance from the movie and the dancers try to show how to do the grind dance featured in the scene of the movie with the song, the contours then perform their hit and leave the stage for the final performer which is Bill Medley, yes half of the legendary blue eyed soul duo The Righteous Brothers, and Bill comes out smokin' with a fifties medley of songs starting with "Let The Good Times Roll" originally performed by Shirly and Lee then the medley continues with a rousing version of Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise" which anyone who covers this tune has done a fantastic job, we then slow the show down with a classic Righteous Brothers tuen "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and I must say even though Bobby Hatfield is not present singing his high parts Medley still pulls off the song, but then why wouldn't he be able to as Elvis Presley performed it in his live shows in the seventies as a solo artist and had no help singing it, now we move back to getting the crowd energized again before closing the show with a rockin' version of Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" which I will say is not the most impressive version i've heard someone cover of it, this is one song that only the original performer and songwriter of this tune can do, infact not many people have braved trying to perform it at least in live shows such as this but as always it is a crowd getter so Bill takes his shot and throws his hat in the ring for his rendition of the song and then closes out the show with the biggest hit probably of the movie which is "I've Had THe TIme Of My Life" and he does perform it with a female singer but they never introduced her to the audience or even in the liner notes or the credits of the live show that did come out in 1988 on VHS tape. All in all this show is a timeless classic of performances that you sincerely wish you could have gone back in time to see this writer was around at the time, but I do not recall the show ever coming through the new england area, cause I think my family and I would have been there to see this show as my whole family was a fan of the movie especially my departed mother, we probably played the soundtracks on vinyl hundreds if not thoughsands of times with all the great classic music contained in the two volumes of the soundtrack.

Nashville's Singer/Songwriter Sarah Clanton's "Here We Are" Will Leave You Wanting More

Sarah Clanton a classically trained cellist from the age of nine, and hails from Nashville, Tennessee brings joy and happiness to the pop and classical mixed world together. Her latest release "Here We Are" puts you in a real good time feeling mood, which is something we need in this world today with all that's going on in this nation. Clanton has a top notch set of musicians backing her up on this 12-track album and it was co-produced by Eric Loomis, Sarah, a singer/songwriter knows how to get her audience wrapped up in the movies in your mind while listening to each of her tunes, I feel that each song is a short film that you can actually visualize playing out in your mind if your imagination can work that way, if it can't work that way than you can also put yourself in each of these penned pieces as the person she's singing about. Each of these quality and time taken written pieces will get you hooked into her music and make you wonder what could be next in line while listening through for your first time. "I Can See You" opens up this album with an infectious beat and groove and also very catchy lyrics, where as "Come And Find Me" has a classic ballad style from the late 90s where we had lots of those and then they faded out into the hip hop and clubhouse beat, so this is a refreshing reminder of songs that can still be written with a meaning in today's standards. "We Belong" has the sound of early Sheryl Crow but has the lyrical influences from this writer's perspective of Nashville's Kim Richey and Gretchen Peters who've both written songs for other artists and have also made a name for themselves Peter's having written "Independence Day" for Martina McBride, and Richey writing "Those words We Said" for herself and Trisha Yearwood, this piece has all the signs of these two artists influences. "Slow It Down" has an infectious harmonization that just gets in your head and thinking of different female duos that could be performing this one duo comes to this writer's mind and that's indie pop rock's Tegan and Sara this would be a perfect track for them to perform in their shows and eeven record. "Head Games" gets you in the mood to go out to a club in a really feeling good mood to dance much like Sheryl Crowe's All I Wanna Do we could use a song like this one on top forty radio to get everyone in their cars driving and in a good mood on their way to work or where ever you might be on your way to when hearing this. "Can't Find The Words" we get to hear Sarah shine on her instrument which is the cello in this piece an instrumental that puts her true talent out there and would fit in a movie especially one of those type of flicks where you've got a couple on a temporary break-up and both characters are remembering the good times they had together while this plays through the montage of memories for both before they get back together at the end of the film. "Silver Lining" there's nothing more than what we need to have at the end of any situation we're in for this day and age which is what all our parents and peers told us all the time and still do which there is always a silver lining in every cloud isn't that the truth all. "Breathe In and Breathe Out" a rockin' feel good to your toes beat with a Rolling Stones flavor added to the tempo makes you want to hear it more and more. "On Repeat" has that get up out on the dance floor club beat to keep you dancing the night away until the morning light. "Bang Bang" has that late 40s early 50s style like Christina Agulera's Candyman song with a concentina playing throughout this fun styled treat. "Hello" is one that may need to grow on you a little as you play the album but is chock full of sentiment as it is about a relationship where when you broke up you really didn't want to but it just wasn't working and so you wished you could just stay in it and keep saying hello instead of saying goodbye. What better way to close out the album but with a classic cover that you never hear much of on the radio anymore and Sarah chose to close out with Brenton Wood's classic "Oogum Boogum" which again is just one of those fun silly infectious songs that you won't be able to stop humming for the rest of your day along with all the other tracks on this release from Nashville's own Sarah Clanton. I Can't wait to see what she's got in store and up her sleeve for the next album already. This album is due out mid-November and wil be available on your favorite media platforms including spotify, amazon and more. Want to learn more about Sarah Clanton you can go to her website below: https://www.sarahclanton.com/

Robert Berry and 3.2 "The Rules Have Changed" album review

September 25, 2018 The material contained in this package are the final works, thoughts, and ideas of the late Keith Emerson (Emerson, Lake and Palmer and 3) who we lost in 2016, although Keith is not playing on this album unfortunately he is channeled through Robert Berry's keyboard playing throughout all the pieces on this cd. Robert who is playing all the instruments in the material told me he almost didn't finish this project when Keith had passed in 2016 as it was difficult to do, but he soldiered on and completed the project. Berry had told me that Keith had originally done about twenty percent of the keyboard playing before he passed and his estate would not allow Berry to use any of the material he had so he had to replicate all the playing Emerson had done himself again he said luckily he had Keith's tracks to go by to reproduce that exact sound as no one could play like Keith Emerson "Keith Emerson was the Jimi Hendrix of the Keyboards, as he could pick it up and play it behind his back like Hendrix could do with a guitar" quoted Berry. This album's worth of material represents Keith Emerson very well as there are only eight tracks within this album, it's promised not to be a disappointment. Berry was quoted as saying while working on this project wwkd which means what would Keith do during the recording sessions of the music, this album was 30 years this year in the making as the last album released from 3 was in 1988, but we can say this it was well worth the wait. We open with "one By One", starting with a kind of classical piano piece at the beginning but then kicks in to high gear ELP style keyboards if you didn't know any better you would have thought it was an ELP track. "Powerful Man" is what could be a piece that was locked in a time capsule for the simple fact that while listening to it you can actually picture it playing in one of those classic 80s plane flying flicks like a "Top Gun" or "Iron Eagle" I can see it clearly playing out during a scene where there's a team of people working on getting the plane ready for some flight action type of scenario. "The Rules Have Changed", again has the classic stylings of the great classic rock bands like ELP, Yes, or even Queen while listening you can really visualize Freddy Mercury of Queen belting this one out but all in that same breath you hear that fresh sound of today's music through the speakers as well. "Our Bond", I will say that you can clearly hear the different influences in each of these for instance in this this writer hears classic Beatles styling in here more of the "All You Need is Love" or "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" with strings and horns accenting the right places in this particular track. "What You're Dreaming Now" has many influential sounds of Emerson's classic rock friends of his time throughout this album that you can't just pick one song and just say i'm going to play this one and not the rest all of the tracks fit together like a jigsaw puzzle where no piece can be out of place you have to play it from start to finish to get the whole picture, it's not one of those cds where you put it on and go to a specific track this is what you can consider to be something that hasn't been made in a long time and that's a classic concept album, and if you're in to those types of albums you're going to love this, if it's your first time listening to a concept album it might be difficult for your listening pleasures but once you get through it you'll want to hear it again and maybe go and get some of those classic concept albums of the day. The last track entitled "Your Mark On The World" says it all and Keith certainly did that in our musical life, he created a wonderful soundtrack that we will never forget. I think if Keith Emerson is looking down from Rock and Roll Heaven he has to be proud that his good friend Robert Berry finished this amazing project and gave Keith a perfect send off to end his body and legacy of his musical career. Well done Robert.

Jada caught the attention of the Boston nightlife scene with his own style of music. He played in venues like STOCKS & BONDS, SNEAKERS, DESTINATIONS, BOSTON WATERFRONT, and POLYESTERS in downtown Boston. One night at Destinations nightclub when Jada was performing a producer liked Jada's style and asked him to perform in a club across the street from Destinations called BOBBY'S LOUNGE & NIGHTCLUB. Bobby wanted Jada there at the time because of a friend of Jada, Marky Mark, now known as Mark Walhberg just got signed by Maurice Star and Marky Mark just made his album and did the Calvin Klein photo shoot for them and at the club Bobbys that was an all gay club Jada was caught off surprise and did not know what he walked into and seen Marky Mark in his Calvin Klein underwear on half nude in the photo all over the club walls.
