Crisis Relief Needed Desperately For Shellter & Food
Hello Everyone,
We hope this message finds you well.
We do have some good news possibly fingers crossed on this we may have a place to live soon it will be a place which is making us happy as the motel life is getting old really fast two months feels like an eternity in this case, we will here on an approval within the next two weeks.
As you know already the homeless shelters i've spoken with cannot accept me because I carry insulin, and hospitals will not admit me unless I have a medical emergency.
We appreciate everyone who has already given to our GoFundMe page. To those who have already donated, you know who you are, and we cannot thank you enough—we are not asking you to give again unless you choose to. We are mainly reaching out to those who haven't had the chance to donate yet. We aren't asking for hundreds of dollars; any small amount helps. I have helped many people over the years and was always told that if I ever needed anything, to just ask. I am asking now. Living in a tent on the street at night is especially dangerous for my situation as someone who is blind and managing diabetes. Please help if you can.
We are still working with local housing authority programs, but it is a challenging process. Sadly, even when you are homeless, nothing moves any faster. We are currently waiting on Wayfinders to approve our paperwork. We were told it might take one more week for approval, but we still need a safe place to stay while we wait. To make matters harder, Wayfinders is only open to the public two days a week (Mondays and Wednesdays). On Thursdays, they are only open for scheduled appointments, and they are closed on Tuesdays and Fridays. Limited hours like these slow the entire process down for us.
Our stays are averaging about $700 a week. We constantly search for the cheapest rates through booking apps like Priceline and Expedia, but deals are rare, and prices remain high. We deeply appreciate any kindness and generosity you can extend to help us cover these costs.
It has gotten to the point where I am considering options to earn money that I never thought I would have to resort to. Amy and I have discussed it, but I would rather avoid it if possible, as it feels degrading.
Amy has been a total godsend. She makes sure my blood sugars stay at a safe level. However, we only received $25 in food stamps this month, which bought us two loaves of bread, a jar of peanut butter, two small containers of marshmallow fluff, and a small container of milk. That is supposed to last us 31 days. We are certainly not gaining weight; if anything, we are losing weight we cannot afford to lose. When we were evicted, our former landlord told us, "I think this is the best thing for you both." We certainly beg to differ—being on the streets is not the best thing for anyone.
We are barely scraping by through the grace of God. Food prices in stores are sky-high, and local food pantries or survival centers are extremely limited in what they can give out. We are not picky eaters, but many places require a physical address in the area just to receive assistance.
At this point, we need to reach and hopefully exceed our original fundraising goal. If you can give even a little, it would mean the world to us. To those I have helped in the past who promised to return the favor if I ever needed it: I am asking for that favor now.
Thank you all again for your support, prayers, and help during this time.
