Talking Hendrix News For the Week of August 30, 2019

What's coming up this week..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This week we have singer/songwriter Matt Kennon who has recently released his single Love Is Stronger which deals with powerful emotions along with his other single The Call, Matt likes songs that have more than just a basic love story or drinking type of song, he wants his audience to be touched by the subjects he writes about, yes they maybe songs about what everyone is dealing with in life on a daily basis sometimes, but there are not many songs written about these subjects in any music genre. For more information about our guest Matt Kennon please read below. Information below is courtesy of publicist Bev Moser: Matt Kennon's latest single "Love Is Stronger"” has already received over 19,000,000 impressions on Music Choice Today’s Country Matt Kennon knows the power of a great song. It can stir your emotions, move you to tears, motivate you to action, and in some cases even save your life, as Matt has seen firsthand in his career with songs like “The Call,” “You Had To Pick On Me,” and even his latest song, “Wasn’t It Enough.” For him, music is about the message, and time and again he’s written thought-provoking and heart-tugging songs that have racked up impressive chart numbers and even more impressive sales: throughout the course of his career he’s already sold 300,000 singles and 30,000 albums. The Atlanta native is inspired by and writes about things close to his heart, and often finds himself writing songs with emotional messages. His songs have definitely hit home with many struggling with issues like suicide, post-traumatic stress, and bullying. The Atlanta native devoted the last two-plus years to a special anti-bullying campaign he developed and took to 83 schools in seven states. Through partnering with several sports foundations around the country, including Alabama coach Nick Saban’s charity, Nick’s Kids, Matt was able to reach 150,000 students with a powerful anti-bullying message. The campaign was just one example of how apt Kennon is at dialing in to the emotions fans are experiencing, and for proof of that connection, one need not look any further than the iTunes chart, where Matt has been a Featured Artist for the last five years with each of his independent releases. His explosive live shows no doubt fuel those sales as well, as Kennon is a powerful live performer with thousands of shows under his belt on stages across the country. Throughout the course of his career he’s shared the stage with high profile artists including, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, and Train, Darius Rucker, Uncle Kracker, Lee Brice, and The Band Perry, among others.Powerful social media interaction has moved the needle for Kennon. The video for “The Call” recently reached an amazing seventeen million accumulated views. A successful songwriter in his own right, with outside cuts by artists such as Randy Travis, (who recorded his song “Turn It Around,”) and many others. The soulful singer also writes with many of Nashville’s top writers regularly. New Publications Out On The News & Magazine Stands Featuring Jimi & Woodstock

Hello Everyone as you see by the title of this post there are some new publications out there in the stores for you to pick up if you're feeling nostalgic for that year 1969 or even just the decade of the 60s in general: We'll start off with a basic one and the prices will be listed to go with the publication if we have the information. Goldmine Magazine has a whole issue on the stands strictly about Woodstock and it's chock full of stories about the festival along with music reviews on the new reissued versions of the music released on cd/vinyl/digital downloads as we know there is a standard 3-cd set, 10 cd set and of course the super super super deluxe edition which is 38 cds along with a replica guitar strap that Jimi Hendrix wore playing his guitar at the iconic festival, a beautiful multi-color page book, and of course the director's cut of the movie on dvd as well all housed in the 38-cd box set. Make sure to get to your local news stand, Barnes and Noble or where ever you pick up your editions of Goldmine Magazine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 1960s The Decade That Changed The Nation this is obviously all about the whole decade that features some of everything in this publication put out by the History Channel it features things that were going on in the world throughout the decade including The Moon Landing, Vietnam, President Kennedy getting shot, Martin Luther King, Jr., Woodstock and more. This publication will be out in stores until the end of October 2019 and the price is $13.99 in the U.S. & $16.99 in Canada ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summer of '69: When Everything Happened, When Everything Changed this publication is put out by the New York Times and features things as the title says about 1969 again things such as The Moon Landing, Vietnam, Woodstock, and much more. This will be out on the stands until the end of October,2019 and is $13.99 in the U.S. and $16.99 in Canada ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodstock 50: Three Days Of Peace And Music this is put out by Life magazine and features articles on the festival and people who attended along with color and black and white photos of the three days at the iconic festival that could not be replicated again if anyone tried. This publication is also on the stands until the end of OCtober, 2019 and is priced at $13.99 in the U.S. and $16.99 in Canada ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We here at Talking Hendrix like to give you the news that we can and hear about or see ourselves out there such as these great publications now we do realize that these are a little pricier than your normal magazine, but if you noticed they are being displayed all until the end of October of 2019 except the Goldmine Magazine that's a bi-monthly magazine release so that you have to get a little quicker than all the others, or if it's already off the news stands you'll have to back order the issue from Goldmine itself if they are still available. These will be great little history books for people who are still attending school and need to do a report of that era. Plus they are a collectible item celebrating 50 years of a memorable decade of music, fashion, movies, important historical moments, and so much more . If you're someone who collects these items of historical moments then you must go out and get these while you can they won't be out on the stands forever.

Academy & Grammy Award Winner Franke previte is Still having the time of his Life Almost 33 Years later

It's been almost 33 years since we saw patrick Swayze and jennifer Grey grace the movie screens with the big dance finale to the big smash hit by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The time Of my life", which is according to ASCAp the 15th most played song still to this day on radio stations everywhere, but let's take a look at the guy who wrote that big smash hit for the movie plus another big one for that same film as well 'hungry Eyes" which was also a huge hit by Eric Carmen who had two music successful careers the first being in the 1970's being the front man of the power pop group the raspberries and then in the 1980's with a solo career which gave him some pretty big hits as well including "hungry eyes', which was written by new jersey's own franke previte who up to that point of those two critically acclaimed hits was in his own band Franke and the knockouts, who also scored hits in the 1980s including hit 'Sweetheart' in 1982. Franke finally just got released on friday music the complete collection of all his Franke and the knockouts releases in one affordable box collection and not only does it include his versions of (I've had) The time of my life" and " hungryEyes", it also contains 6 previously unreleased live recordings and 11 studio demos. Franke had said for years people would ask him where could they obtain his records as they were being sold online websites like e-bay for large amounts of money, so he finally got a deal with friday music and released everything that Franke and the Knockouts had recorded along with the bonus material we've mentioned. We should also mention that if you purchase the collection that $1 of every sale of the collection goes to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in memory of Patrick Swayze, whom Franke was good friends with and if you are looking to give more to this charity Franke has a facebook page called Dirty Dancing Demos and if you purchase any of the demos the entire amount of the sale will benefit the cause as well. We here at Talking hendrix recently spoke with franke and he said for the Dirty Dancing movie patrick Swayze had told him that they had gone through 149 demo tapes for the final dance scene in the movie and when they heard (I've Had) The Time Of my life" the cast and crew fell in love with it infact they shot that scene first when they were filming the movie and Patrick Swayze said that part where you see him lip synching the words to (I've Had) The Time Of My Life", he wasn't doing it to the Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes version he was doing that to the Franke and the Knockouts version so when they recorded the final version for the movie soundtrack they had to keep it in the same style as the scene was already shot and if it was off they would have had to reshoot the scene again, they again were dancing to the Franke and the Knockouts version of "Hungry eyes' as Eric Carmen had not recorded it for the soundtrack yet either so again they kept it pretty true to the original demo. These songs remain classics to the radio but they are also used in many television shows and commercials around the world, as this writer puts it a recording artist could just live off the royalties of a couple of big successful hits such as these but Franke continued on writing songs for movies and other artistts like Cyndi lauper, and wrote some music for even a Sylvester stallone movie called 'Avenging Angela'. Franke is now currently on the road as co-producer with singer, dancer, producer Lisa Sherma and their musical review 'calling all divas", which celebrates THE FEMALES OF MUSIC FRom Etta James, Aretha Franklin right up to the present says Previte, it's not a broadway musical as it's about four different girls who are competing against each other trying to become the next big star, and they're living through these songs and this one guy has to pick one out of these four girls and decide which one he wants to be be the next big star and at the end of the day he can't make up his mind which one he really likes so he turns them in to a group and calls them 'The un4gettables", that is the first act and the second act is a concert of the un4gettables. To see if "Calling All divas" is coming to a city or town near you you can check out their website at; www.callingalldivas.com This was not a show thrown together said Franke it took almost three years to just find the right girls to do this we ended up finding a girl that was a finalist on nbC's The Voice, we found another who could just sing gospel and the blues like you wouldn't believe, we also found a girl from nashville from the Curb recording artist group Cowboy Crush, so just hearing about those three alone you'd have a hard time picking just one as well. if you are interested in hearing the whole interview that Franke did with us on Talking hendrix you can click on the link below, we intend to have Franke back for a follow up interview down the road, but until the follow up interview go and check out this one for now you won't be disappointed. https://archive.org/details/talkinghendrixshow191neverhaditbetterwithfrankepreviteoffrankeandtheknockouts8162019

Talking Hendrix News For the Week of August 23, 2019

What's coming up this week..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This week we have three special guests all of whom we've been lucky to have grace the airwaves of our show and are all masters of their craft in the blues and rock genres of music and all who've been lucky to play with so many great legends in their time. our first of three guests is legendary blues artist Joe Louis Walker information on Joe is courtesy of press release from John Lappen of Lappen enterprises: Joe Louis Walker is one of the greatest bluesmen of his generation. He is a four-time Blues Music Award winner and 2013 Blues Hall of Fame inductee who has appeared on multiple Grammy-winning albums. He is known worldwide as one of the genre’s top musical trailblazers—a mesmerizing guitarist and soul-testifying vocalist. The New York Times raves, “Walker is a singer with a Cadillac of a voice. He delivers no-nonsense, gutsy blues. His guitar solos are fast, wiry and incisive, moaning with bluesy despair.” Rolling Stone simply calls him “ferocious.” And Billboard writes: “His playing blows all over the map…gutbucket blues, joyous gospel, Rolling Stones-style rock crunch, and aching R&B. Walker’s guitar playing is fine and fierce." Joe won the 2016 Blues Foundation Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year award at the Blues Foundation Awards ceremony in Memphis. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded blues music performers. The annual Blues Music Awards ceremony is the premier event for blues professionals, musicians, and fans from all over the world. Joe’s latest album is a CD/DVD release filmed live in Las Vegas in 2018 and is, of course, entitled Viva Las Vegas. It was released in May on Cleopatra Records. Here’s a link to information on this release: http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=206000 Joe will be performing at the North River Blues Festival in Marshfield, Massachusetts on Saturday August 24. Our second guest is no stranger to Talking Hendrix infact we should probably present an award for being a guest who's appeared on our show as many times as he has and that's James Montgomery, James is no stranger to the new england area as he's told us at Talking Hendrix one of his first performances with his James montgomery band was at UMass in Amherst Massachusetts during the days of the Kent State protest rallies all around the country at the time. james has graced the stage with many prolific artists such as Bonnie raitt, The rolling STones, Aerosmith, Johnny Winters, The Allman Brothers, Joe Cocker and way too many more to list here we always have a blast when James calls in to do interviews with us at Talking Hendrix. James was inducted in 2018 into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, this is also the same year he put out a self-titled album called the james montgomery Blues Band, but the interesting thing about this album is it pays tribute to one of James's musical heroes and is a legend himself who we lost way to early in his life and career and that's Paul Butterfield, James does great renditions of some of paul butterfield's biggest classic hits like "born in chicago' and 'mary mary", which strangely enough wasn't a Paul butterfield penned tune, it was written by Michael nesmith of the sixties famed television group the monkees, james's version of 'mary Mary" is a mix between the Butterfield Blues Band version and the monkees version as well. James will be performing at Memorial Stadiumin Quincy, Massachusetts on Saturday August 24. our third guest is Paul Nelson this is Paull's second time appearing on Talking Hendrix we spoke with Paul back in october of 2017 our information below is courtesy of John Lappen of Lappen Enterprises" Being blues/rock icon Johnny Winter‘s hand-picked touring and recording guitarist is just one of the accolades held by Grammy-winning guitarist Paul Nelson who has also shared the world’s stages and/or recorded alongside Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Billy Gibbons, Slash, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Vince Gill, Sonny Landreth, Ben Harper, Joe Bonamassa, amongst others. With appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel, Nelson is known for his amazing tone and playing style by an ever-growing legion of fans, establishing him as one of today’s leading modern blues and blues-rock guitar trendsetters. Nelson received a Grammy Award for his work performing on and producing Winter's Step Back release on Megaforce/Sony Records, winning "Best Blues Album of the Year.” Step Back also won the Billboard Music Award "Blues Music Award" for "Best Blues/Rock Album," reaching #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and staying at #1 on the Billboard Blues Charts for weeks. Nelson is also a recipient of the Blues Foundation's KBA "Keeping the Blues Alive Award.” Paul was also nominated for a Grammy for his production and playing on the highly acclaimed album by Blues Hall of Famer Joe Louis Walker, Everybody Wants a Piece. He also appears in the award-winning documentaries: Down and Dirty: The Johnny Winter Story and Sideman: Long Road to Glory"(feat: Bonnie Rait, Gregg Allman, Hubert Sumlin), Nelson, who studied with legendary guitarist Steve Vai in his Berklee College of Music days, and jazz fusion greats Steve Khan and Mike Stern, created a tour de force with his first solo all-instrumental blues/rock/fusion solo release, entitled LOOK. Staying at #1 on the Billboard Hot New Releases charts for months, Nelson's latest project Badass Generation was released on Sony Records. It maintains his unmistakable connection to the Blues, but it also finds Nelson showing his many other musical dimensions that his ever-growing fan base has come to expect and who consider him to be one of music's most respected and influential contemporary guitarists. Paul fronts his new four-piece band and Bad Ass Generation is indeed a badass album, full of bluesy, bawdy, rocking riffs, tight ensemble playing and well-written songs. Whether it's headlining festivals or performing at many of music's most prestigious stages or iconic clubs to packed houses – including New York's Iridium, the Blue Note, 55 Bar and BB Kings to London's Astoria and Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago - Nelson's guitar mastery and band in a live setting is impressive and unforgettable. The Johnny Winter documentary, Down & Dirty debuted at South by Southwest and is a highly acclaimed, no-holds barred, inside look at the life of Johnny Winter. Paul is featured extensively in the film and is also the film’s Executive Producer. Here’s a link to the Down & Dirty trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7pRujKFfsg Paul and the band will be performing at the Grog in Newburyport, Massachusetts on Sunday August 25. Thoughts of woodstock 1969 and what it should truely mean to people who were there and wanted to be there

It was 50 years ago this week that 500,000 people gathered on a farm for what would become a iconic historical event. That's right on August 15th, 16th, 17th, & 18th we would celebrate what they would have called and still call to this day three days of peace and love at a festival called Woodstock. No one at that time realized just how historical this event would be and also had closed out the decade of the 1960s. The year 1969 would have a lot of things happen that are remembered in history some good some bad of course, the bad and the good would basically equal out on the scale for instance we finally had sent man to the moon and he walked on it, some of the bad would be we still were fighting in the vietnam war which wouldn't end for a few more years still. Charles Manson was convicted as being the mastermind behind the Sharon Tate murder and would be sentenced to life in prison. Another good thing or so most people would say it was good some might not was we had this big three day festival of peace and love and although it would be declared a disaster area by the second day, because of all the people who had came to this festival, it was proven that there was no violence for those days of the concert, that proved that the young american generation could go and have a good time but not have any sort of violence occur during those days there. The concert was originally a ticketed event where you had to pay for either 1, 2, or all 3 days each day the ticket price was a mere $6.00 a price that you could never pay again for a concert event as huge as this one was in the present day. The concert would feature many acts some brand new to the crowd and some familiar acts they knew as well, the acts would include Janis Joplin, Ritchie Havens, Country Joe and the Fish, Ravi Shankar, Sweetwater, Quill, The Who, Burt Sommers, John B. Sebastian, Santana, The Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, Johnny Winters, The Keith Hartly Band, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Ten Years After, Sha-na-na, Melanie, The Greatful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Canned Heat, and of course the big closer of the show Jimi Hendrix with his Gypsys, Sun and Rainbows band. A stellar packed bill of artists on a bill like this today if it were to happen probably would cost anywhere's from $300-$400 easily, and...and could not be replicated to be anywhere as good as this show would turn out to be for the simple fact that it was already tried two different times once in 1994 where there was some of the same scenario from the rigianl including the monsoon rain that occurred for 4 hours at the 1969 woodstock right after Joe Cocker's set was performed, and then we tried again in 1999 where we had fire set in some dumpsters, violence and let's not forget that there were even some rapes reported at Woodstock '99, so let's think about this did we honestly think that 50 years later after the original Woodstock happened that we could get lightning in a bottle again to happen like the original??? i'm not thinking so on that question, for the simple fact that yes in 1969 there was a tremendous traffic jam and people just left their cars as close to the grounds as they could and walked to the farm, we also have to remember the bathroom situation at the 1969 event was not as great as people would have thought, and let's not forget a couple of other things at the 1969 event there was a drinking water shortage, and a food shortage, but amazingly enough people had banned together and volunteered to help make sandwhiches and provided some sort of food as donations to give to that massive crowd of people, no one thought to bring coolers with food and drinks for the three days or change of clothing for the three days what happened was again there was no violence, but there were three deaths none were due to violence though one was an overdose of drugs, an appendix had bursted, and lastly a person was asleep in their sleepingbag and got ran over by a tractor, so all in all those were accidental deaths. What we've learned from Woodstock in 1969 is a few things since they've tried but never was anywhere near successful as the original and that's first off we didn't have the technology we have today like cellphones which personally i think ruin a lot of events for the simple fact that you're taking away from the artist making ticket sales for shows if you put the whole thing up online then you don't have to go and see that artist now do you? Second it was proven as I said earlier there was no crime of any sort during the 1969 attendance of Woodstock now if we were to have another Woodstock there wouldn't be enough security for such an event as even if you had 100,000 people in attendance there's no way that security could be on the lookout for everything going on in their surroundings, and lastly let's remember this old cliche saying and that's 'you can never go back to the past' which is the truest saying of all. We didn't have to wait twenty five years even to prove that Woodstock was like lightning in a bottle four months later in 1969 the rolling Stones would attempt to do a smaller scaled version of Woodstock at the Altamont Speedway in California with the same promoters and it was a horrific type of festival that i'm sure even mick jagger of the rolling Stones himself would like to forget, as they thought they'd need security for this show so they hired the "Hells Angels' as security and the turn out of that" brilliant idea" notice the words in double quotes meaning sarcasm there that it was not that good of an idea people were killed due to the security being drunk as they weren't paid in money they were paid in alcohol, you'll see how upset mick jagger was if you watch their concert documentry 'Gimmie Shelter' What the results were from Woodstock, besides three days of peace love and music, was some great music acts came out of the period at least two songs that I can recall were written about the festival the first being "woodstock" written by Joni Mitchell who was supposed to perform at the festival but her manager decided against it as he was afraid she wouldn't make it in time for her television appearance on the Dick Cavett show, and the second song written in honor of the festival was Lay down (Candles In The Rain) written by Melanie who did actually attend and performed. Can we say that there were songs written about the other two Woodstocks that happened???.....no we can not, because as i've stated it was never replicated again, and let's face it as a friend of mine says it already happened so why did we need to do it again and that friend is absolutely right about that, we never had another montery pop festival if we did no one really remembers it as it wasn't documented like the first one, where as most people think that the beatles played Shea Stadium only the one time because it was on television that's where you're wrong they played it again the following year in 1966 it just wasn't filmed and very few photos were even taken at the show i'm with most of the people who say you can't go back and personally I wasn't even there as I wasn't born yet, I wish i had been there but that's why we have the documented films from various videographers that were there, yes i know it doesn't bring you there but we can at least see what it was like for the people who were there, and if we're lucky enough maybe we can possibly meet someone who was there and they can tell you what it was like to be there, most people who've talked about it say it wasn't what everyone thought as yes in the film it looks like everyone is happy and having a good time, but in reality most people didn't come prepared for the conditions like the mud and rain storm that effected the third day of performances and made the scheduled times of the acts carry over to monday the 18th, most people left before jimi Hendrix even took the stage, so he didn't get to experience playing in front of those 500,000 people but he still played in front of a large crowd and it was approximately 40,000 people which for a concert for any artist is still impressive, but again this is why we could never go back to create another Woodstock.

It Was50 Years Ago This Weekend

This week in music we celebrate the 50th anniversary of an iconic and historical music festival, that would close out the decade of the 60s we're talking about "Woodstock", where 500,000 people would gather in Bethel, new york on a farm owned by a man who took a chance on letting all these people gather none other than Max Yasgur, who was also impressed that all of that crowd could come together for three days of peace, love and music and survive all the rain and mud that would come along with that memorable weekend with such acts as Country joe & The Fish, Ritchie Havens, John B. Sebastian, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, The band, The Greatful Dead, burt Sommer, melanie, Joe Cocker, Sweetwatter, Melanie, Canned Heat, Leslie West & Mountain, Ten Years After, and of course Jimi Hendrix along with many many more to have come to play for that tremendously large crowd of people. Everyone who attended this festival should be commended for all of the conditions they survived for that weekend including food shortage, bathroom conditions, lack of drinking water and so much more. On the 50th anniversary of this legendary festival we won't have as big of a festival to go and celebrate but what they will have for us are three giant legends playing at Bethelwoods where the festival took place in August of 1969 starting on Friday August 16th with Ringo Starr and his All Star Band taking the stage at 7 p.m. but there will be other festivities going on that day at Bethelwoods including a book signing by rock journalist and author Mike Greenblatt who's book just came out in mid-july called "Woodstock 50: Back To Yasgur's Farm" Mike was an original attendee of the original festival and was practically right in the front row for the show and tells his experiences of being in that crowd of 500,000 people and he'll be there signing copies of his book and answering questions for anyone who has any for him as well, he will be there all three days . Along with Mike Greenblatt there will be some bands performing on an outdoor stage before Ringo goes on that night one band included on the outdoor stage is Grammy nominated band American Nomads who will be taking the stage at 5:00 p.m. and will perform until 6:30 in honor of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock American Nomads have a new single written to pay homage to the woodstock era and that song is entitled "1969" the link to their youtube video of this song will be at the end of this article. On August 17th at Bethelwoods you can catch Santana an original alumni member of the 1969 woodstock festival and he'll be joined that night by the Doobie Brothers as a supporting act , and to close out the weekend of festivities at bethelwoods will be another original woodstock alumni memebr none other than John Fogerty on sunday August 17th. There is so much you can do and see at Bethelwoods besides see the great weekend of shows there like you can check out the meuseum of the original woodstock festival. If for some reason you can't get to the festivities there is always some other options like the new 3-cd version of the complete woodstock music out to buy in stores or digitally right now or there is the big full and complete vrsion of all the performances that were at woodstock and that's called Woodstock 50: Back To The Garden and that is 38-cds along with the director's cut of the movie a book of the history of the festival, and much much more so be sure to go out and get into that hippie mode and play that woodstock memorable music. Link to the current single with over 20,000 views on youtube and counting and has also been just recently released to 2,000 radio stations please check out this song it will put you in the mood for some classic woodstock music for sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAaU_d8OUxM

Now for the review of the show from August 26th, 2017 at Northampton, Massachusetts Iron Horse Music Hall Northampton's Iron Horse Music Hall Got "Experienced" by Kiss The Sky: The Jimi Hendrix ReExperience By Ed Wrobleski Host/Producer of Talking Hendrix on www.bostonfreeradio.com Wednesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. August 27, 2017 Kiss The SKy: The Jimi Hendrix ReExperience are one of few tribute bands out there doing what they do best which is paying homage to legendary rock icon Jimi Hendrix. The Show on Saturday night August 26th, featured three sets of music the first set contained music from Jimi Hendrix's Experience band featuring Ted Edwards as Mitch Mitchell on drums, AJ Hager as Noel Redding on bass guitar, and Jimy Bleu as none other than Jimi Hendrix on guitar. The first set opened with title track of Jimi's first album "Are You Experienced", and from there the crowd which was from my perspective just in awe from the stage presense from seeing Bleu who resembles Jimi perfectly with all of his manurisms and moves, it is safe to say that Jimi is being channeled through Bleu's performance, in the opening set we heard so many Experience classics such as "Hey Joe", "Spanish Castle Magic", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Fire", "the band was definitely on top of their game Ted Edwards played with precision just like Mitch Mitchell and even looked the part of Mitch as well, and AJ Hager was groovin' on the bass looking and acting just like Noel Redding would in any of Jimi's live performances, the opening set closed out paying tribute to one of Hendrix's icon's Chuck Berry with a rockin' rendition of Berry's classic "Johnny B. GOode", just in the way Jimi had performed it in his live shows, you could feel the electricity and energy coming off the stage. The Second set was in honor of the Band Of Gypsys, again opening the set was a spot on version of the song "Who Knows", featuring James Jackson as Buddy Miles on drums and vocals, and Chuck Dunlap-Ellis as Billy Cox on bass guitar and of course Jimy Bleu as Jimi Hendrix on guitar and vocals I felt this set was a little short but again left the crowd electrified, in the set we heard "Power Of Soul", "Them Changes", a Buddy Miles penned track letting James Jackson shine on the lead vocals on this rockin' and audience participation track, "Machine Gun", which Bleu paid tribute to all the war veterans in the crowd and again James Jackson's precision drumming on this particular piece especially getting the drums to sound just like a machine gun firing off, and of course we also heard "Message To Love" in this Band of Gypsys stellar set. The closing set of the night combined both the Experience and Band of Gypsys playing together on stage with Bleu finishing the show with what we would call a best of Hendrix set featuring classics like "If 6 Was 9", "Little Miss Lover", "Red House", "Rock Me Baby", "Purple Haze", a spectacular rendition of Jimi's "Star Spangled Banner", and the finale for the night was "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" which brought the crowd to their feet cheering for more. These musicians are all seasoned pros who've played and worked with many talents just to name a few blues legends Pinetop Perkins, Debbie Davies, Aerosmith, and many more. Kiss The Sky is not just a band who plays Jimi's music this is like a broadway show they use exact equipment from the periods like the Marshall amplifiers, Ludwig drums, they wear the period clothing just like the Experience and Band of Gypsys wore, and Jimy Bleu gives a 110% performance playing the guitar and doing the things Hendrix himself did such as playing behind his back, with his teeth and so much more. If they come to a town near you, i'll say this much you will not be disappointed with this show at all, below is the list of songs they performed in the show. Are You Experienced , Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made Of Sand, May This Be Love, Foxy Lady, Hey Joe, Johnny B. Goode Alll Along The Watchtower ,Fire, Red House, Rock Me Baby, Power Of Soul, Message To Love, Machine Gun, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return), Them Changes, Who Knows, Purple Haze, Litttle Wing, Little Miss Lover, Axis Bold As Love, If 6 Was 9, Star Spangled Banner, The Wind Cries Mary, Hear My Train A-Comin', Stone Free

Grammy Nominated Roots Rock Band American NoMads Plays Bethelwoods On August 16th In Celebration Of The 50th Anniversary Of The Iconic Woodstock Festival

American Nomads Band is a roots rock band hailing from Brooklyn, New York with their current single "1969" with over 20,000 youtube views already and counting will be playing next weekend at the Bethelwoods Center For The Arts in Bethel, New York. This is the venue where it all happened in 1969 for what has probably become one of the biggest festivals in music history and has never been reproduced to any extent, with close to a half a million people strong that weekend was the most historical concert ever to have happened in music history....you guessed it "Woodstock", and next weekend starting on Friday August 16th Bethelwoods Center For The Arts will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of that historical concert that took place on those very grounds which at the time was known as Max Yasgur's farm, the events taking place there next weekend as I stated start on the 16th with an outdoor stage which will have some artists performing including American Nomads their show starts at 5:00 p.m. promptly and then at 7:00 p.m. get ready for Ringo Starr and his all Star band to take the big stage that evening, if you're planning to go for the whole weekend there will be plenty of different activities going on at Bethelwoods including a book signing by author Mike Greenblatt who just recently released his book Woodstock 50: Back To Yasgur's Farm, the other headlining acts for Saturday August 17th will be Santana and The Doobie Brothers and to close out the weekend festivities will be John Fogerty on sunday the 18th, plus the biggest thing at Bethelwoods besides the concert venue of this great historical place is of course the museum 8 place filled with the history of the three days of peace and love that took place in august of 1969. The band American Nomads is an 8-piece band featuring Walter Kenul on lead vocals and keyboards, Dante DeLemos on lead vocals and guitar, Susan Darmiento on lead and background vocals, Joseph Humann on harmonica and percussion, George LaGrange on guitar and background vocals, Joe Conoscenti on drums, Jay Rivera on bass and background vocals, and Gerald Menke on pedal steel. guitar Susan Darmiento recently interviewed for our show Talking Hendrix spoke to us about the band's current single "1969" which pays homage to the woodstock music generation era, "we were going for the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young sound when we were recording the track". The song "1969" is currently only a single that can be purchased on all digital platforms for music, the song has been currently released to 2,000 radio stations for airplay, with the Woodstock vibe in the air it should get a lot of attention right now one woould think, it should be an amazing weekend says Darmiento we're excited to be playing on the anniversary of the festival and to also be playing on the same night as a Beatle, we're really looking forward to playing this show and we're hoping for beautiful weather that weekend as well, i'm so excited to be playing at the original site of this show as I was only a kid when the original show had taken place and to be playing on the 50th anniversary is just insane and we're just looking so forward to it that we can't wait says Darmiento. American Nomads are not only playing Bethelwoods the first of the three day celebration of the iconic festival, they will also be playing at another festival the following day and that's the "Hope Rocks Music Festival" and they will be taken the main stage at 4:30 p.m., the Hope Rocks Music Festival will be taking place at the Cantine Veterans’ Memorial Complex located in Saugerties, New York, for more information and ticket availability go to www.hoperocksny.com the band will be playing a lot of the same material that they'll be playing at the Bethelwoods show, the show will be illuminating the darkness of depression and addiction, again for more information on this show please go to the website mentioned in here for the full schedule of events for the day, an/or of course try to check out the American Nomads at the 50th anniversary of Woodstock on friday August 16th at 5:00 p.m. and the address for the woodstock event : Bethel Woods Center for the Arts located at 200 Hurd Road, Bethel, New York 12720, and for ticket prices and availability go to https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org. Talking Hendrix News For the Week of August 9, 2019

What's coming up this week..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Everyone, We are officially back on the air this friday night from 10-11:30 p.m. on www.bostonfreeradio.com I am very greatful and humble to be back on Boston Free Radio and I want to personally thank the station manager Heather McCormack and the executive director Brian Zipp, it feels great to be back on a well known station that has such a diverse choice of programming for everyone, and and this is why we are happy to be back on the station that gave us our start, thanks to everyone including Brian and Heather at Boston Free Radio/Sommerville Community Access Television for welcoming us back with open arms. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of our Guests this week is Bryan Bassett from the band Foghat he's been with the band for 20 years and he and the band will be coming to the Paradise Rock Club in Bostob, Massachusetts on August 16th. We also have Rodney Justo of the Atlanta Rhythm Section the band will be coming to the South Shore Music tent in Cohasset, Massachusetts on Saturday August 17th, you'll get to hear Rodney talk to us about what you can expect on the 17th, along with their special guests Pure Prarie League, and Poco. Atlanta Rhythmn Section will also be coming to Western Massachusetts in September to The Eastern States a.k.a. The Big E and they will be playing two shows within two days there on September 22nd & 23rd at 3:00 p.m. each day. As I said you'll hear Rodney talk about the band and his days of working with Roy Orbison and Billy Joe Royal as well. Our third guest is Grammy nominated group American Nomads from the Brooklyn & Woodstock, New York area and they will be playing on August 16th at the Bethelwoods Theater which is built on the exact spot of where the original Woodstock in 1969 took place and the band has a new single out called "1969" in honor of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, they will be playing on the outdoor stage before the headline act goes on the big stage which on that first night of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock weekend will be Ringo Starr and His All Star Band that night . If you like what you hear in this track below make the journey/trip out to Bethel, New York on Friday August 16th, you won't be disappointed, if you're planning to do the whole weekend of shows the schedule is as follows: Friday August 16th Ringo Starr and his All Star Band Saturday August 17th Santana & The Doobie Brothers Sunday August 18th John Fogerty Now it's not as big as Woodstock 50 was supposed to be, but you do have two Woodstock'69 Alumni there that weekend, as for Ringo well from my understanding The Beatles were always invited to play festivals like Woodstock and Monterey, but they chose not to as they were tired of touring which is why they stopped in 1966, plus they couldn't reproduce that sound you heard on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and albums going forward after that period at the particular time. American Nomads Please go and check out their new video "1969" at the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAaU_d8OUxM So don't forget to join us this friday night from 10-11:30 p.m. eastern time on www.bostonfreeradio.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upcoming Concert Dates and News.... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday August 5th Shaun Cassidy Ridgefield Playhouse Ridgefield, CT www.ridgefield.playhousect.org Tuesday August 6th The Garcia Project : Tribute To The Jerry Garcia Band The Kate Old Saybrook, CT www.katharinehepburntheater.org Wednesday August 7th Natalie Merchant Ridgefield Playhouse Ridgefield, CT www.ridgefield.playhousect.org wednesday August 7th Lenny Clarke The River Club music Hall Scituate, MA www/theriverclubmusichall.com Thursday August 8th Stick Men Natick Performing Arts Center Natick, MA www.natickarts.org Saturday August 10th Shawn colvin Iron Horse Music Hall Northampton, MA ww.iheg.com Saturday August 10th Eaglemania : Tribute To The Eagles 3 & 8 P.m. He sadly passed away on August 1st at the age of 94 and he had just celebrated his birthday on July 15th, he worked with a lot of legendary artists including David Bowie, and Depeche Mode to name a few, He will be missed, but he left quite a legacy of film documentries for us and the generations to come and watch R.I.P.
